I spent 10 years scouting the world so you don't have to.

Hi, I’m Mike Lipton. I help passionate photographers skip the tourist traps and find the perfect light.

The Reality of Travel Photography

If you love photography, you already know the sinking feeling of arriving at a famous landmark only to find it swarming with thousands of people. Or worse, finally finding that hidden cobblestone alley you saw online, only to realize you are there at high noon and the light is completely blown out.

Great travel photography is rarely about having the most expensive camera. It is almost entirely about logistics, timing, and location scouting.

For the last 10 years, I have worked as an expert travel photographer, navigating the streets of the world's most iconic cities. My job wasn't just to take photos; it was to spend days (and sometimes weeks) walking neighborhoods, tracking the path of the sun, and finding the quiet, off-the-beaten-path vantage points that no one else knew about.

I learned the hard way how exhausting and expensive it is to try and "figure out" a city on the fly.

Why I Started Lipton Travel

I created this service because I realized that most amateur and hobbyist photographers simply do not have the time to scout a city before they shoot it. When you only have a 48-hour weekend in a new place, spending half of it looking for a good angle is a waste of your trip.

I wanted to bridge the gap between expensive, private photography tours and generic, overcrowded tourist maps.

That is why I build these bespoke, $19 guides. I take my decade of professional scouting data and compress it into a perfectly timed, highly walkable 48-hour itinerary customized exactly for the month you are traveling. I will also suggest some accommodation and other options from time to time, these may contain affiliate links which, should you decide to use will pay me a small commission with no extra cost to you.

My Scouting Philosophy

When I build a guide for you, I stick to three uncompromising rules:

  • The Light Dictates the Route: We don't just go to cool places; we go to them exactly when the golden hour or blue hour light will make them look cinematic.

  • Walkability is Mandatory: Your time is valuable. I sequence every location logically so you are never backtracking or paying for unnecessary taxis.

  • Anti-Tourist Mentality: We avoid the selfie-stick crowds. I prioritize rooftop vistas, architectural symmetries, and hidden gems that let you shoot in peace.

You bring the camera. I’ll bring the map.
